The Alternate path (signified by the ((*)) ) makes you a better trained, more experienced fighter, because it involves special training. Most people prefer to go through the alternate path, because it takes about the same time as normal, plus you learn special things that you wouldn't learn if you took the normal path.

WTF (World Taekwondo Federation)
IBBF (International Black Belt Federation)
Kuk Ki Won (the World Taekwondo Headquarters located in South Korea)
Chang Moo Kwan (Headquarters of Soon Bae Kim, and authors of all techniques in the Korean Martial Arts)
